colors + cultures
It is common for people to face cultural barriers or challenges because of their disconnection to other cultures. Countries are set apart by distinct ideas, values, and cultures, permeating the lives of their people. Color leaves similar impressions on people as it can mean a variety of things across cultures. Being aware of one’s surroundings and being perceptive to other cultures is very important because it will widen one’s mind and point of view, leading to a healthier and richer experience of the world, as well as offering more context to communicate cross-culturally.
colors + cultures consists of a book designed for middle and high school students, when they are starting to become exposed to other cultures through classes such as human geography, anthropology, or foreign languages. The book highlights several colors such as pink, gray, yellow, brown, red, blue, white, purple, green, orange, and black, to inform the reader/viewer how the color is used in different countries, where it can be found in different areas of the world, and the reasoning behind it. The connotations concentrate on cultural aspects, such as traditional clothing, politics, food, religion, and more. Through colors + cultures, I hope to encourage students to be culturally active and aware.
