Beauty in Context
Comparative material about various points in history’s makeup trends are hard to find. Such criteria is based on cultural ideals and artistic traditions, established and adjusted by artists, critics, those who call themselves specialists, and by ordinary people like you and me. On what grounds do we develop a general consensus for what is considered beautiful? To what extent is the human mind programmed to appreciate certain qualities? Do we consider symmetry, harmony, and regularity beauty because we don’t like chaos? Is smoothness, brightness, and youthfulness attractive everywhere?
Beauty in Context challenges the audience to question what we consider beautiful in terms of makeup trends. I want to educate observers on how the notions of makeup trends result from sociocultural ideals.
